Literature : On Writing A Great Novel

Writing just a novel and writing a great one aren't the same because while everyone cannot write a great book, at least anyone can always couch up something in the name of a book. Now,
arguing about great and not great novels is only logical when likely lineaments of a great work of art is first examined.

                                  What makes a good novel?

I believe one must know what makes a great book first before he can be able to write one:

1.     PLOT: This will be your story. The totality of what a writer is sending out there for public criticisms or appreciation. Plots in a nutshell comprise of any text contained in-between the covers of a book. You must have natural/an original story in other to make a great a book. Your story must be real though imagined. A factual fabrication. Writing trenchantly when plotting; been very conscious to as much as possible present your lines in a punchy way. Avoiding discursive, bland and too much emphasis are great writing tips. One must waffle at a point but try to be very shadowy about it. Great books incorporate some great deal of thrills, emotional see-saws and solid suspense that get’s your reader glued and wanting to peruse further. Also don’t forget that great artistic works resonate. Yes, your reader should be able to unconsciously make scenes of your narration from within. One Golden rule of plotting is ''don’t tell me what I know''. Your whole effort would've been a waste if you sapped your precious time telling your audience what they already know. Similar to the first and yet another rule is the twin brother; ''do not create suspense so simple that readers bypass their encryption to make predictions that end up rhyming with what (the suspense) you purportedly twitched amidst knitted web of events.''

2.     Diction: This is the semantics of the storyteller.  The writers’ choice of words which he uses to intuitively and aptly convey events with an extreme display of good knowledge of use; technicality and style. Diction plays a very decisive role in the success or failure of any book. For commercial writing, demands are not very much since a plain knowledge of grammar , passable  narration ability and the muse are basic. while the case of academic writing is strictly opposite since one must fulfil /integrate certain level of literary expectation(as to jargon) by way of expression in the art in order to get a critical acclaim.  Now before deciding in this regard-your diction, it’s necessary to first have a good knowledge of your impending audience/target audience. What I mean is that writing is same as live communication and just about why we write in the first place. Hence, any line you frame or phrase up that does not effectively communicate/ tell whatever you have for your audience will most likely fall flat. That’s why you must know your target audience and have them at the back of your mind till a book is written. Is your target Audience College, high school, or elementary students? Educated (write professionally inculcating technical jargon), fairly educated (blend formality with informality) or uneducated (go very informal polishing your work with country life)? Also note that almost all class of human beings have something for humour. Too much formality bores at times

3.     Reading & Writing:  If there is any area established writers' opinion have constantly struck unplanned consensus. It’s in this. Professional writers always tell you that what made them was voracious reading: just about anything. Magazine, journals, Novels, articles etc. because they help expand your vocabulary; widen our thinking and charge analytical abilities needed for expert critical brainy works and writing. And like reading is prolific writing. Reading will give(lend you because one tends to even start loosing them when one stops writing) you the word and inspiration while writing is an opportunity to practice and practice is the only gateway to perfection. So if you really want to be a great writer you must learn to not only use your eyes but your hand also.

I will end by asking you to, as a budding writer, write at least an article daily.                                      You will not regret you did!
